Responsibilities and Opportunities

Last week Mr. Tanio, District Attorney Investigator, presented to our staff on cyber bullying and social media.  Social media is a huge responsibility for our young people.  It is important that as adults we model the way we interact with one another on social media for our young people.   Please take a moment to sit down with your children and visit with them about the responsibility they have when using any electronic device.

I had the pleasure of visiting all of the school sites last Thursday and Friday.  What an honor to see our students learning and our teachers instructing!  It became readily apparent during these visits that one, our teachers are invested in the success of students and two, partnerships matter.

The first sign of our teachers investment in our students has been through the curriculum mapping process.  I am thankful for their positive attitudes and willingness to work on this process.  The investment was also observed during the professional development that was provided for teachers to assist them in a variety of areas whether it was working with computer programs, understanding students with special needs, responsible use of social media, or bus safety.  In the coming weeks a new page will be created on our website that highlights the curriculum maps completed by the teachers.

Partnerships matter for our students.  It is a pretty simple statement, but I was able to see it in action this past week.  As I was walking through the high school Thursday afternoon a young man came up to me introduced himself, and explained to me that he had completed his electrical classes at Northwest Career Tech.  He told me about apprenticing opportunities with local electricians, and his future plans.  What a great opportunity our students are afforded in this community through the partnerships between Alva Public Schools, Northwest Technology Center and Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

Finally, please be aware that we are working on an app for the school district.  The roll out process has been slower than expected, but we hope to be able to share the app with the community in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Tim Argo
